Two priests of Bali’s supreme water temple, Pura Ulun Danu Batur, located on the rim of the crater overlooking Lake Batur. Both were chosen in childhood by trance mediums at the temple, upon the death of their predecessors. The mediums gather in the temple to seek the guidance of the Goddess of the Lake and the other 44 gods and goddesses of the temple, to choose the new priests. More than 200 villages bring offerings to the temple each year, fashioned from the plants that grew in their fields thanks to the gift of water and fertility from the deities of the temple.
